How Genesis works
The numbers behind the pause, and the questions people ask before switching.
Measured against Gemini.
What changes when you switch, from Genesis’s own testing.
| What you feel | Genesis vs Gemini | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Wait before a reply | Genesis starts speaking after 400 milliseconds on average; Gemini Live after about 1.2 seconds. | About 3x faster 400 ms vs about 1.2 s average time to first audio. Genesis flagship path vs Gemini Live. |
| Voices to choose from | Genesis offers about four times as many voices as Gemini. | About 4x more At launch. The catalogue keeps growing. |
All comparisons are from Genesis’s own measurements. Speed is the average time until a character starts speaking, compared with Gemini Live; voices are compared with Gemini. Your results will vary with the mod, the conversation and the path you’re routed on.
Before you switch.
Which mods work with Genesis?
Los Santos Alive for GTA V is supported now. Another project is in development and will be announced when it’s ready.
Where do the speed figures come from?
From Genesis’s own testing. Speed is the average time to first audio, meaning how long until a character starts speaking: 400 ms on the Genesis flagship path, against about 1.2 seconds on Gemini Live. Your numbers will vary with how you play.
Do I need a Gemini account or any other API key?
No. Install a supported mod and sign in with Genesis when the installer asks. That’s it: Genesis handles the models, voices and routes behind it.
How does paying work?
New accounts start with free credit, so you can hear it for yourself first. After that it’s prepaid: you top up your balance and it’s spent as your characters talk. It never costs more than Gemini, economy paths cost less, and a turn that fails is never charged. There’s no subscription.
What happens if something breaks upstream?
Genesis watches the paths behind your key and can send your next line a different way when one slows down or fails. In our testing, 99.9% of about 5,000 turns came through. No service can promise nothing ever goes wrong, but one struggling path shouldn’t end the conversation, and a turn that fails is never charged.
Why is Genesis in beta?
Genesis is new, and we’d rather be upfront about that. Everything on this page works today; what’s still evolving is the fine-tuning: the paths, the voices and your dashboard, shaped by how people actually play. If something feels off, tell us, because early players have a real say in what we build next. And while we polish, a turn that fails is never charged.
Will I have to update anything when Genesis adds voices or models?
No. Improvements to routes, models and voices happen behind the same key you already use.
Is Genesis cheaper than Gemini?
Usually, though your mileage will vary. Genesis routes every turn dynamically, so what a turn costs depends on the path it takes and how you play. What doesn’t change: we’re set on never charging you more than Gemini would. As a rough estimate from our testing, Genesis comes out about 30% cheaper overall, and up to around 3x cheaper on economy paths.
Why not just use a free Gemini key?
You can, and plenty of players start that way. But free keys run on Google’s free tier, and Google has been tightening its limits. When you hit them, requests get slowed down or rejected outright, which in game means characters taking ages to answer or not answering at all. Genesis is built to be the reliable alternative: the paths behind your key are watched, a struggling one is routed around, and a turn that fails is never charged.
